Shillong, Dec 5: The state government is planning to set up three skill labs in the state to help students gain additional skills, learn nursing certificates, MBBS certificate or FB certificate.
These skill labs will be set up in Shillong in East Khasi Hills, Tura in West Garo Hills and Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills.
Speaking to media persons, Cabinet Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said that such a skill lab is the need of the hour for students and citizens of the state to get additional skills for job opportunities in foreign countries.
“We have Korea, Japan, England and Singapore that are acutely facing manpower shortage, a skill lab in the state, maybe in Shillong, Tura, Nongstoin will help our students and citizens get additional skills to be able to get employment in these countries” said Lyngdoh.
Lyngdoh said that the proposal is at the early stage but locations have been identified to set up these skill labs.
“We are in conversation with the chief minister but nobody will disagree with me that a skill lab is highly required in at least three areas in the state of Meghalaya to prepare our citizens to avail job opportunities,” she added.
While emphasizing that the government is keen to set up skill lab, Lyngdoh said “If you cannot get the job opportunity in your own state, the government is not lying idle, we are concerned because of the many difficulties that we are having that we cannot open all of these institutions in our own state.”
