Shillong, April 15: The Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) has expressed its interest to train more nurses for job opportunities in Germany.
Informing this on Tuesday, Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said, “The MSSDS again is in touch with several employers, health facility centres from Germany and they have expressed their interest to the Government of India to also train some more nurses so that they can go to Germany and work as nurses or nursing care providers.”
She informed that the MSSDS has prepared a QR code for citizens, who are eligible GNM nurses, to scan and become eligible candidates.

“Your name gets registered once you scan the QR code, your name is then sent to the employer, who is the interested person, who will engage you in the nursing practice and then they will have a selection and candidate will be called to the MSSDS centre at Umsawli, which is now going to be shortly inaugurated, where we are going to be having a centre for various agencies for training of language of additional skills as per requirement of the destination country, that you will be going to,” Lyngdoh explained.
“This is a good opportunity for all of us. Once, the government of Meghalaya undertakes through MSSDS this particular training, some portion of the training programme will be covered by government in due course of time. Like we did for the nurses, once the selection procedure is over, they are then given some assistance from skill development programme of the government of Meghalaya and they are paid for to a certain extend by this fund,” she added.

Lyngdoh informed that a lot of the MSSDS centres at the district level are already functional. What remains is the establishment of a central headquarter that will provide classroom-based training. She mentioned that this facility is in an advanced stage of development, with land, laboratories, and classrooms nearing completion.
When asked about the demand for nurses, Lyngdoh said, “Let us look at the demand. We take a call when a demand is made known. Right now, we are sending out this message to citizens that if you’re interested, scan the QR code. You will then be contacted for further details and registration,” adding that once the number of interested candidates is known, the next step will be taken accordingly.
She further informed that qualified nurses from Meghalaya have already shown keen interest in opportunities abroad, with many nurses already going to countries like Singapore and Japan. “This will continue to build over the years and this is good because this is a window of opportunity for qualified personnel, who are otherwise just sitting in the state and not engaging in any activity,” she added.
