Tura, Jan 20: Meghalaya has officially unveiled its State Anthem in Tura on Saturday, marking 52 years since achieving Statehood.
The Anthem was composed by Late Neil Nongkynrih and the Shillong Chamber Choir bringing together indigenous elements by Summersault and Nokpante.
The Khasi lyrics were written by Cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh, and Kit Shangpliang, the singer of Summersault and a member of the Shillong Chamber Choir. Iris Watre Thomas added Garo lyrics, and the English lyrics were contributed by Late Neil Nongkynrih, Paul Lyngdoh, Chamber Choir and Officials of Art and Culture Dept.
The virtual launch was presided over by State Governor Phagu Chauhan, with the presence of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Tura MP Agatha Sangma, Cabinet Minister Dr. M Ampareen Lyngdoh, Chief Secretary D. P Wahlang, and officials from the Arts and Culture Department.
