Shillong, Dec 3: Around 400 members of Meghalaya Youth Congress from Khasi and Jaintia Hills tendered their resignation from the primary membership of Congress on Friday.
Addressing the pressmen here on Friday, the outgoing general secretary of the state youth Congress Fernandez Dkhar said, “We took a resolution to tender a mass resignation from Congress. Around 400 youth rendered their resignation.”
As for the reasons for the mass resignation, he alleged its because the party is only looking at people with money. “For now they need only people who have money. We are not happy, they are talking only about money,” he alleged.
Dkhar also claimed that the current leadership has dissolved the Youth Congress without prior information to the present leaders of the Youth Congress.
He went on to state that if the current Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Vincent Pala wanted to be the president, he should have said it clearly and that he should have conveyed his support to Charles Pyngrope.
“I don’t know somewhere down the line, why did he change his mind?” he said.
Accusing the Congress leadership of divisive politics, Dkhar said, “Why not consult us for the membership drive? The constitution of the party was not followed.”
On the prospect of Trinamool Congress in Meghalaya, he said, “Change is never easy but always possible.”
Dkhar did not deny if he was approached by TMC leaders.
