Shillong, May 1: Women folks of Syntein village in East Khasi Hills District are now selling their handicraft products to various five-star hotels, all thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme.
This was informed by BJP spokesperson and former Mawsynram legislator Himalaya M Shangpliang on Monday. Shangpliang said that the Mann Ki Baat is a connection between the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of the country.
Stating that the PM encourages entrepreneurs, the former MLA said, “We have in our state the Syntein village where women folks make baskets, handicrafts out of bamboo and cane. This was not known to the world. The PM in his 99th episode (of Mann Ki Baat) had a very serious interaction with the people of Syntein village. We had organized the live telecast and the people of the Syntein village of Mawsynram were so delighted and so happy to see their own PM face to face on the screen.”

“After the Mann ki Baat with the PM, I must tell you that there was so much response from the outside world into the Syntein village. They wanted to buy their products. Now the people of Syntein village are going online and selling their handicrafts all over the country and they are getting orders from all five-star hotels for those fruit or bread baskets to be kept in their respective hotels,” he said.
“I must say that the Mann Ki Baat has become like a medium of exposure for the rural India to the outside world. I thank the PM for initiating this programme of Mann Ki Baat of highlighting the country to the outside world,” he added.
Lauding the success of the 100th episode of the Mann Ki Baat, Shangplaing said this was witnessed by the whole country as well as in many parts of the world.
