Must read

Shillong, April 30: The rich cultural tapestry of the Northeast will be on display at the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025, set to take place from May 1–4 at the Jio World Convention Centre (JWCC) in Mumbai. Among the most anticipated highlights is WAVES Culturals & Concerts, a four-day extravaganza of performances that brings the richness of India’s cultural landscape to the global stage, with Northeast India taking centre stage.

Curated under the theme “Connecting Creators, Connecting Countries,” the cultural programme will feature mesmerising performances from all eight northeastern states, offering an immersive experience of the region’s vibrant heritage.

From Meghalaya, the spotlight will fall on the Wangala dance, an energetic and rhythmic tribute to the sun god, performed with traditional drums and costumes. It reflects the agricultural traditions of the Garo community and promises to be a standout moment in the festival’s cultural journey.

Audiences will also witness the graceful Sattriya dance of Assam by the Sattriya Kendra, Guwahati, the celebratory Gumrag harvest dance, Sikkim’s lively Tamang Selo and Singhi Chham, Tripura’s Hojagiri, and Manipur’s Manipuri and Thang-ta martial art performances.

Nagaland will open the cultural segment with the soulful Tetseo Sisters performing Li folk songs in the Chokri dialect, accompanied by Nzanta, a group performance by the Lotha Naga women. Mizoram’s iconic Cheraw (bamboo dance) and Arunachal Pradesh’s elegant Kaa Kingnara Kingnari, inspired by peacock lore, will further enrich the programme.

Organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, the Ministry of Culture, Government of Maharashtra, and global partners including YouTube, Spotify, and BookMyShow, WAVES 2025 reinforces India’s commitment to connecting global audiences through creativity and culture.

A detailed day-wise schedule of the cultural performances will be available via the event calendar.
