Mercury continues to soar high in Garo Hills, temperature above normal by 2.9 to 5.7 degree Celsius

Tura, Apr 25: The mercury level continued to soar high in most parts of the State, particularly in Garo Hills. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Shillong on Thursday said that hot and humid weather condition will continue for next three days in different parts of the State.

Yesterday’s maximum temperature were in the range of 34-39 degree Celsius in many parts of the district under Garo Hills, and in Ri-bhoi it was between 24-27 degree Celsius, while in Khasi-Jaintia Hills, the maximum temperature were above normal by 2.9-5.7 degree Celsius at isolated places.

On Wednesday, the maximum temperature recorded was in Resubelpara town in North Garo Hills, which recorded 39 degree Celsius. The IMD has not released data for plain belt area of Garo Hills, including Mahendraganj, Tikrikilla, Phulbari and Rajabala, where the temperature was a high as 40 degree Celsius.

On Wednesday, Ampati town in South West Garo Hills recorded 36.3 degree Celsius, Baghmara recorded 34.5 degree Celsius and Barapani recorded 34 degree Celsius.

As per IMD’s special bulletin, the temperature will continue to soar for the next three days, mostly in Garo Hills region and Ri-bhoi. “Hot and humid weather condition is likely to prevail at isolated places over the districts of South West Garo Hills, West Garo Hills, East Garo Hills and North Garo Hills,” it said.

On Thursday, Ampati recorded an average of 40 degree Celsius, while Tura recorded maximum temperature in the range of 34 – 37 degree Celsius. The temperature will rise upto 43 degree Celsius in Ampati in the next three days. The situation will be same in most parts of Garo Hills, where the temperature will be in the range of 35-28 degree Celsius.

According to accuweather.com , temperature at night will be very warm with no indication of rain Garo Hills for next three days.

On Friday, the temperature will continue to rise across Garo Hills. The UV index is being projected to be as high as 12, which is considered, “very unhealthy”. At night, the temperature will dip to around 27 degree Celsius with no prediction for rains in the next three days.

Compared to last year, the temperature difference during the day in the month of April, is as high as 1-4 degree Celsius, while at night is 6-8 degree Celsius.

Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills, Hema Nayak said, “The district Administration has decided to circulate an advisory on the heat wave and also to prepone the regular school timings.”
