Shillong, July 7: Meghalaya Assembly Speaker and United Democratic Party (UDP) president, Metbah Lyngdoh has urged all to refrain from plying politics over the interstate boundary issue with Assam, and come together to make sincere efforts to resolve the almost 50 year old issue once and for all.
He also suggested the government to take all the stakeholders on board to deal with the issue as it has been a difficult matter to resolve for all the Chief Ministers of the States, so far.
“That is why everybody should be taken into confidence as far as this issue is concerned and not play politics anymore,” he told reporters on Tuesday while adding “this is a serious issue…we have to put sincere efforts to ensure the boundary issue is resolved.”
On Monday, the Speaker had also called on the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma at Guwahati and extended best wishes for his new assignment.
Lyngdoh said they discussed about the Assam – Meghalaya boundary issue, inter alia, which has been pending for the past 50 years keeping in mind that everybody is looking forward to see which government can solve this vexed problem.
The Speaker said he has expressed serious concerns about the issues related to the problems faced by the people living in the border.
He informed that the Assam CM also expressed similar concerns and has assured to take up the matter at a very fast pace.
