Guwahati, Jan 20: A routine train journey became a remarkable act of compassion at Guwahati Railway Station when a pregnant woman from Bihar gave birth on Platform No. 4, with the help of railway doctors, officials, and the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
The extraordinary event unfolded at around 6:30 am on Monday. The woman, travelling from Agartala to Barauni on the Rani Kamlapati Express, suddenly went into labour as the train approached Guwahati. Prompted by a distress call, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) officials sprang into action, advising her family to disembark for immediate medical help.
As the train arrived, a team of railway doctors and RPF women personnel were waiting, ready to assist. In a seamless and compassionate effort, the team helped the woman safely deliver a baby girl right on the platform, with both mother and child in good health.
“It was a heartwarming moment amidst the daily hustle of the station. The teamwork of railway staff, doctors, and RPF personnel made this possible,” said an NFR official.
After the delivery, the mother and her newborn were quickly transferred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for further care, accompanied by her husband.
This incident stands as a shining example of swift humanitarian response and the power of teamwork, proving that even in the busiest of places, compassion finds a way to shine through.
