Tura, May 27: Strong winds brought in by the impact of Cyclone Remal uprooted a large tree that fell on a house belonging to a college lecturer in Babupara late Monday afternoon.
Miraculously, the family escaped without any injuries.
Powerful winds since Monday morning has brought down electrical posts and branches of trees at several places in Tura town and authorities are bracing for a full impact of the storm as it passes through Garo Hills sometime before midnight of Monday.
Tura and its adjoining areas are in darkness as electricity has been cut to prevent incidents of live wires tripping and falling onto roads posing threat to public.
