Mendipathar, April 23: A woman who was reported missing from Mendipathar on April 20 has been found dead near the Assam–Meghalaya border. Police have registered a case of kidnapping and murder.
As per information received, the woman had left her home on April 19 at around 5:00 PM, riding a Scooty. When she did not return and her phone was found to be switched off, her family filed a missing report at the Women Police Station in Mendipathar in North Garo Hills on the evening of April 20.

Two days later, on April 22, an unidentified female dead body in decomposed condition was spotted by villagers on a drain near the paddy field at Khas Rangsi village in Assam, near the inter-state border of Meghalaya and Assam and the matter was reported to Dainadubi Police Out Post.

Based on the information, the In-charge of Dainadubi Police Outpost rushed to the spot along with village elders after informing the matter to Assam counterpart. On reaching at the spot, a thorough joint verification of the spot was done along with Assam Police and prominent village elders, and the spot was found to be located in Assam. Accordingly, Assam Police took custody of the body and carried out all necessary legal procedures, including shifting the body for post-mortem examination.

The woman was later identified by her family members as the same individual who had been reported missing from Mendipathar.
In light of the circumstances and following confirmation of identity, police have registered a case of kidnapping and murder, and an investigation is underway.
