Mizoram celebrates 76th Republic Day with cleanliness competition awards

Aizawl, January 27: Mizoram Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh presented the Mizoram Cleanliness Competition 2024 awards for the district headquarters and urban towns categories on Sunday during the 76th Republic Day celebration at AR Ground, Aizawl.

Organized under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) by the Mizoram Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Department since 2017, the competition has become a hallmark initiative, fostering community engagement and sustainable practices.

Winners of the 2024 Mizoram Cleanliness Competition:

Category-II (District Headquarters):

1st Prize: Saitual – ₹1,00,000 and a certificate
2nd Prize: Siaha – ₹80,000 and a certificate
3rd Prize: Serchhip – ₹50,000 and a certificate
Category-III (Other Urban Towns):

1st Prize: Phullen – ₹1,00,000 and a certificate
2nd Prize: Tlabung – ₹80,000 and a certificate
3rd Prize: Biate – ₹50,000 and a certificate

The competitions aim to instil awareness and encourage healthy rivalry among urban centres, focusing on waste segregation, elimination of open defecation, and public space beautification. Local authorities, municipal bodies, and citizens have come together to achieve these goals, making Mizoram a model for collective progress.

With its innovative approach, the initiative has sparked transformative change across the state, proving that sustainable cleanliness practices and active community participation can pave the way for a cleaner, greener future.
