Mizoram CID seize drugs worth crores from Myanmar nationals

Aizawl, Sept 17: A team of CID Special Branch on Monday seized over 40 kg of Methamphetamine and over 3 kg of heroine worth several crores of rupees at the outskirts of Aizawl town in Mizoram and also nabbed suspected drug peddlers, some of whom are Myanmar nationals.

Based on Intel, the CID launched a covert operation and on Monday evening intercepted two vehicles at Hualngohmun at around 10 pm and a thorough search of the vehicles was conducted. In one of the vehicles, the CID sleuths seized 32.013 Kg (32 bundles) of suspected methamphetamine valued at Rs. 4.14 crore in the grey market.

Additionally, the CID recovered 249 grams (21 packets) of suspected heroin valued at Rs. 7. 5 lakh which were concealed inside the door panels of the car (MZ-01-N-3642). The driver of the vehicle, Lalthansiama (26) of Khawmawi, Myanmar was taken into custody.

In the second vehicle, 8.021 Kg (8 bundles) of suspected methamphetamine valued at Rs. 1.04 crore was seized. Moreover, 565 grams (47 packets) of suspected heroin valued at about Rs. 16.9 lakh was also found which was similarly concealed inside the door panels of the car (MZ-02-A-9053). The driver of the vehicle, Zoremmawia, also from Khawmawi, Myanmar, was apprehended.

On Tuesday morning, a third vehicle (MZ-01-G- 5672) was intercepted at Muanna Veng, Zuangtui. After search of the vehicle, the CID seized 2.284 Kg (196 packets) of suspected heroin valued at Rs. 68.52 lakh. The driver of the vehicle, David of Zokhawthar, however managed to escape, but the passenger of the car and a suspected second driver, a juvenile, were taken into custody.

In this whole operation the CID seized 40.034 Kgs of suspected Methamphetamine valued at Rs. 5,20,44,200 and 3.098 Kgs of suspected heroin valued at Rs. 92,94,000.

All the arrested persons were handed over to Special Narcotics Police Station on Tuesday where a criminal case vide Special Narcotics PS Case No.36/2024 under section 21(C)/29(1)/25 ND&PS Act read with 14A Foreigners Act was registered.
