Aizawl, Dec 12: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Wednesday inaugurated two new excise and narcotics stations at Saitual and Khawzawl, newly established district headquarters in the eastern part of the state.
The launch of these stations underscores the government’s firm resolve to combat the drug menace and support rehabilitation efforts for drug-addicted youth.
Mizoram faces a significant challenge from drug trafficking, with the majority of illicit substances flowing in from neighboring Myanmar. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, CM Lalduhoma made addressing drug-related issues a top priority from the moment he assumed office on December 8 last year. On the day of his swearing-in, he visited a privately-run de-addiction center before returning home, signaling his commitment to the cause.
Under his leadership, the state government has held several consultation meetings with NGOs, churches, and key departments to formulate strategies for reducing both the supply and demand of illicit drugs. Efforts to strengthen enforcement are also underway, with plans to amend existing laws to enhance legal mechanisms, an official source said.
