Aizawl, July 24: After reports of hundreds of Meitei people from southern Assam and Manipur leaving Mizoram following a public call by former Mizoram insurgents to people from the Meitei community to leave the state, the government of Mizoram has arranged for security cover for Meiteis in the capital Aizawl , The Mizoram government has assured safety of Meiteis.
The government’s assurance came amid reports of Meiteis fleeing the state following an ‘advisory’ by an ex-militant’s association of Mizoram asking them to leave due to tension triggered by the viral video of two women being paraded naked by a mob in Manipur.
State home commissioner and secretary H Lalengmawia held a meeting with leaders of the Meitei community and assured them of their safety and security, an official statement said.
There are reports of hundreds of Meiteis leaving Aizawl, by flight, buses and hired tacos, sources added.

According to official sources there are about 1500 Meitei families living and working in various sectors in Mizoram.
Meanwhile the powerful civil society group Central Young Mizo Association ( CYMA) has urged Meiteis to live peacefully.
Also in a significant development the Mizo Students Union ( MZU) has decided to call off it’s proposed drive to gather information about Meiteis living and working in Mizoram after a meeting with the state government.
There has been outrage in Mizoram over the viral video of the two tribal women being stripped and sexually assaulted in Manipur.
