Aizawl, Nov 4: In a tragic accident in Lawngtlai district of Mizoram, one Lineman of Power & Electricity Department, Lawngtlai Division, identified as one Francis Rochungnunga was electrocuted on Thursday evening while he was repairing a current line.

Sources said the main power line was turned on when he was on top of the electric post.

Human negligence is suspected.

Meanwhile, the suspension order of the officer in charge of P&E department, Lawngtlai, was issued on Friday. An officer named Lalnghakliani, SDO, has been suspended.

This year itself, four people have lost their lives due to the electricity shortage in the district; all suspected due to human negligence.

NGOs in the district have issued a statement saying that they demand the resignation of SDO and JE. They are also demanding compensation for Francis’ wife and children and that Francis’ wife be given a job in the department to support herself and her children.
