Mizoram: Petrol stations running out of oil; tankers to stop plying from Sept 17

Must read

Aizawl, Sept 16: Mizoram has been hit badly after acute scarcity of fuel and essential items could not reach the state after hundreds of trucks got stranded due to dilapidated conditions of NH-306/06, the life line of the state.

On the other hand, the Mizoram Oil Tanker Driver Association (MOTDA) and Petroleum Entrepreneurs’ and Transporters’ Union of Mizoram (PETUM) decided that no tankers will ply the highway from September 17 onwards.

The two organizations stated that the National Highway 306 & 6 are in very bad shape, which makes it dangerous for tankers to ply on the roads; and that many tankers had to be repaired due to the bad roads, leading to high cost in the transportation of petrol and diesel.

Most of the tankers are currently stuck on the highway, and many petrol stations are running out of fuel; forcing them to close down their operations.

Similarly, the grocery stock points are reporting shortage of several items as trucks are stuck on the highway. Some of the truckers have also refused to transport certain items as they claim that such items get destroyed during transportation due to bad roads.
