Aizawl, May 6: In a major drug bust, the Dungtlang Police Station team in Mizoram seized 236.33 kg of methamphetamine worth over ₹30 crore during a late-night patrol near Thinghrangkawn and Vanzau in Champhai district on Monday.
The team intercepted a Bolero (registration number MZ01G-7112) heading towards Bungzung on suspicious grounds. Upon inspection in the presence of independent witnesses, eight nylon sacks containing 199 bundles of suspected methamphetamine tablets were recovered from the vehicle.

A total of 20,09,900 tablets, weighing approximately 236.33 kg and valued at ₹30,72,29,000 in the local market, were seized in accordance with legal procedures. Police also recovered ₹2,89,500 in cash and impounded the vehicle used for transportation.
The vehicle’s driver and passenger, identified as Laltanpuia (30) and Vanropuia (27), both sons of Lalchamreia from Champhai Vengthar, were arrested. A case (Dungtlang PS C/No. 17/25 dated 04.05.2025) under sections 22(c)/25/29 of the NDPS Act has been registered for further legal action.
Following the seizure, a police team was promptly dispatched to Kolasib to intercept individuals suspected of receiving the consignment. Three men—Nirupan Nath (27) of Kadamtala, Tripura; Lukman Uddin (33) and Sagardey (27), both of Churaibari, North Tripura—were arrested from the outskirts of Zanlawn, Kolasib.
An investigation to trace the full extent of the smuggling network is underway under the supervision of Shivendu Bhushan, Superintendent of Police, Champhai.
