Mizoram urges citizens to embrace traditional attire for cultural revival

Must read

Aizawl, Dec 5: The Mizoram government has renewed its call for citizens to wear traditional Mizo attire more frequently to preserve and promote the state’s rich cultural heritage. This appeal, which extends to government employees, aims to strengthen ties to Mizo customs, traditions, and folklore.

While wearing traditional attire at workplaces remains voluntary, a fresh notification has been issued under the directive of Chief Minister Lalduhoma to encourage broader participation. The move comes ahead of the vibrant Chapchar Kut festival, celebrated annually in February or March, where participants don colorful costumes and elaborate headgear, engaging in song, dance, and festive merriment.

Mizoram’s festivals, deeply rooted in agricultural traditions, celebrate the cycles of land cultivation. Among them, Mim Kut, Chapchar Kut, and Pawl Kut hold significant cultural importance, with participation spanning all age groups and genders. By encouraging the adoption of traditional dress, the government hopes to foster a deeper appreciation for these age-old customs.
