MLSA organizes mega camp cum awareness on NALSA schemes in Garo Hills village

Tura, July 15: The Meghalaya Legal Service Authority (MLSA) organized a mega camp cum awareness program on NALSA (National Legal Services Authority) schemes in Somonpara village under Gambegre in West Garo Hills on Saturday.

The event, which was held at St. Francis De Sales School in Somonpara village, aimed to create awareness about various legal schemes implemented by NALSA and promote important social causes. The program witnessed the presence of Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court, Justice Sanjib Banerjee, and Meghalaya High Court Judge, Justice HS Thangkhiew.

The highlight of the event was the special bike rally, which was inaugurated by Chief Justice Sanjeev Banerjee. Speaking to Hub News, Dipu Marak, the team leader of the motorcade, shared, “The bike rally carried a special message on drug abuse, child marriage, and the protection of the environment. We flagged off the rally from Somonpara, and it travelled to Tura, covering a significant distance.”

Marak further mentioned that the rally witnessed the participation of three female bike riders, who actively contributed to the cause.

The bikes used in the rally were adorned with placards and posters conveying messages against drugs, child marriage, and other pertinent issues. A total of 27 bikers, including 3 female riders, participated in the rally, with a fleet of 25 bikes.

On a query about their previous rally experiences, Marak informed, “We organize such rides once a month to promote riding culture and encourage safe riding practices such as wearing helmets and safety gear. Additionally, we aim to explore the scenic Garo Hills region.”

The rally comprised various biking groups and individual participants, including TNR from Williamnagar, NH51, and Achik Tourism Society. The MLSA also extended its support by funding and sponsoring the rally, ensuring the provision of fuel and refreshments for all participants.

A DoJ funded projected titled ‘Increasing Access to Justice Through Community Meditation’ was also launched on the occasion, which also marked the launch of celebrations of 25 years of legal services in Meghalaya.

Besides, assistive devices were distributed to Specially-Abled persons.
