Must read

Aizawl, Oct 27: Mizoram Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia will be contesting from Tuichang in the upcoming assembly polls, scheduled to be held on November 7.

Tawnluia, a veteran Mizo National Front (MNF) leader, has been elected to the Mizoram Legislative Assembly on the MNF ticket in the years 1987, 1989, 1998, and 2003. He again won the Tuichang assembly seat in 2018.

He is also the current Senior Vice President of the Mizo National Front (MNF).

Tawnluia was also the Home Minister in the previous MNF ministry in 1998 and 2003.

He was the former commander-in-chief of the disbanded Mizo National Army (MNA) for over 20 years.

Tanwnluia is one of the top leaders of MNF and has done lots of work for the party.

He said the state government’s Socio-Economic Development Policy (SEDP) scheme will continue if the Mizo National Front (MNF) returns to power in the November 7 Assembly polls.

Tawnluia, who is also senior MNF vice president, said SEDP assistance is not vote-bank politics but primarily a development-oriented programme.

The ruling MNF, main opposition Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), Congress, and BJP have decided to contest all 40 seats on their own.

Elections to the 40-member Mizoram assembly will be held on November 7, and the counting of votes will take place on December 3.
