Tura, Feb 14: A large mob of angry protestors from different Garo Hills organisations broke through a police cordon and entered the premises of the GHADC on Monday at 12:30 afternoon shouting slogans demanding removal of the newly elected CEM Rakesh A Sangma.
The shocking scenes of the protestors forcing their way through police cordons and entering the council complex which had been under section 144 shocked employees forcing them to flee their work stations.
In light of the mass rally called by various groups on Monday to oppose the election of CEM Rakesh A Sangma, police had blocked all entrance points to GHADC, beginning from Williams Point park itself, a distance of 100 meters.
Only those with identity cards and working in the district council were allowed to enter.
Monday had witnessed over 80 percent attendance by the council staff, informed GHADC officials.
However, the protesting organisations who had been blocked out of assembling at William point gathered at Government College field in Teteng Aja, around 2 kms, and from there they marched in unison.
Shouting slogans against the CEM they marched through the AOC petrol station and despite attempts by the security team at the entry point to bar them, the groups broke through and marched into the council complex sending employees into chaos.
At the time of the incident only officers and staff were present at the office while the CEM and his Executive Committee had been advised against attending to work.
As the breakthrough began, many of the officers and staff, including the Secretary, left the premises anticipating violence.
At the time of filing this story, the tension in the air had gradually simmered down and the protesting groups had begun their protest meeting inside the complex, which was their primary demand.
