TURA, Nov 23: Thieves broke into a mobile tower operational room of the Airtel company in Bolchugitok village under Jengjal police station and took away two high powered batteries used for back up in times of power disruption.
The theft occurred on November 21st night and the cost of the batteries are worth approximately two lakh rupees.
Battery theft from mobile towers are frequent in Garo Hills, particularly in areas where it is unmanned, and the thieves sell these batteries in neighbouring Assam where demand for it is prevalent.
