Agartala, Dec 2: A moderate intensity earthquake, measuring 5.6 on the Richter Scale, hit parts of northeastern region of India and adjoining Bangladesh on Saturday morning.

According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the quake struck at a depth of 55 km from the surface at 9.05 a.m. on Saturday morning in Bangladesh.
The Disaster Management officials of Tripura and Mizoram said that there was no immediate report of any casualty or damage to property.
Successive earthquakes in the mountainous northeastern states, especially in Assam, Mizoram and Manipur, have kept the authorities worried, forcing them to build quake-protective structures.
