New Delhi, June 05: In a significant political development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu, who accepted it.
This was confirmed by a communique from Rashtrapati Bhavan.
“The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, met the President today and resigned along with the Council of Ministers,” the communique stated. “The President has accepted the resignation and requested Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers to continue till the new Government assumes office.”
Reports suggest that the formation of the NDA government and the swearing-in ceremony of Modi are likely to occur on June 8.
Earlier in the day, the Union cabinet recommended the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha.
The term of the current Lok Sabha is set to end on June 16.
