SHILLONG, Aug 23: Suspended Congress legislator from West Shillong Mohendro Rapsang on Tuesday ruled out the possibilitly of him joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as his inclination is to join the National People’s Party (NPP).

“Most probaby my inclination is to join the NPP. I have spoken to my people and they also wants me to join the NPP,” Rapsang told reporters.

Stating that he is still a Congress legislator, the sitting MLA said, “I won from the Congress and I will remain in the Congress till 2023. But before elections, I will see from which party I will contest.”

When asked about speculation of him joining the BJP, Rapsang however said not only the BJP but many political parties have also approached and requested him to join their folds.

“Congress too is still waiting for me to contest from the party. Not only BJP but many parites have also approached me to join them. However, we will see I will decide from which party I will contest but my inclination is with NPP,” he reiterated.

He said he is still under 3-year suspension by the Congress. “If the Congress does not lift my suspension, it doesn’t mean that I will not be able to contest elections, so I am compelled to search for a new party to contest. So I have to resign from the party before the election,” Rapsang said adding that he will resign from Congress and only then he will join another political party.
