Shillong, Dec 20: Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal on Thursday appealed to consumers to pay their electricity bills regularly.
Speaking to reporters, Mondal admitted that non-payment of huge outstanding bills hugely affected the revenue generation of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL).
“That’s why all consumers, be it industries, ferro alloys, or even domestic consumers, I would request through you that bills should be paid regularly. If you have any outstanding bills, they should clear it if not in one go but through an installment basis also because we got to also give bills to the utilities from where we are purchasing the power,” he said.
Asked, Mondal said, “As long as they keep on paying, we will not disconnect (power supply to them).”
On the other hand, the power minister informed that the rehabilitation of the Myntdu Leshka power project is almost completed.
He also informed that the proposal to convert the Riangdo power project from three to six megawatt is being sent to Rourkee for their views and comments. “The same has come but I am yet to go through the details,” the minister added.
