‘Money heist’ gives way to ‘Whisky heist’ in Tura

Must read

Tura, July 4: This was one heck of a bender!

“Liquor might not solve all your problems… But it’s worth a shot” so thought a couple of “street smart” connoisseurs who broke into the Summer wine store in Hawakhana market of Tura on Friday night, in the hope of quenching their thirst for the weekend.

But “Operation Chu” or alcohol went horribly wrong when one of them was caught on the store’s CCTV generously helping himself to the finest of the liquors.

The young lad who briefly became a hero to his group of followers for the daring liquor heist and his belief that “sobriety was not in his Vodkabulary” soon found himself before the long arms of the law.

“The accused has been arrested. As per FIR, no cash was stolen but bottles worth roughly around Rs 30,000 were lifted,” informed Tura police when asked by Hub News.

These are desperate times for tipplers of Garo Hills, what with Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh, who apparently is no fan of the ‘spirits’, putting his signature mark by way of curbs into opening of wine stores for a limited three day period each week.

While whisky lovers are being left sober and no longer pickled, it’s the bootleggers who are cashing in on the Covid lockdowns, keeping their fingers busy counting the crispy notes.

As for the adventures of our very own local Huckleberry Finn, now cooling his heels (read hands) behind bars, his relationship with whisky is clearly on the rocks!
