Shillong, June 19: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday directed departments to provide immediate relief to the affected people on a priority basis while reviewing the flood situation in the state caused by incessant rains in the last few days.
The meeting, held via video conferencing, was also attended by Revenue & Disaster Management Minister Kyrmen Shylla, Chief Secretary D P Wahlang, and officials from State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).
The Chief Minister took stock of the situation in all the districts and urged the Deputy Commissioners to keep an alert vigil over the situation and be watchful of the vulnerable areas. He assured all the districts of the support needed and said relief measures and ex gratia payment should be made within the mandated 48 hours.
The districts reported of landslides, uprooting of trees leading to blockade of roads and disruption of power supply which have been cleared and restored. All relief, restoration and rehabilitation measures are underway the districts reported.
