Soldier killed

Guwahati: A soldier was killed and four others were injured when militants attacked an Indian Air Force convoy in the Surankote area of Poonch district in Jammu on Saturday evening, triggering concern amid peak electioneering in the area.

Former minister arrested

Guwahati: Former Karnataka minister and Holenarsipura MLA H.D. Revanna was arrested from his father and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda’s residence in Padmanabha Nagar on May 4 at 6.45 p.m. The arrest came minutes after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Special Court for Elected Representatives, Bengaluru.

Internal politics

Guwahati: External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Saturday said what is happening in election-bound Canada over the killing of Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar is mostly due to their internal politics and has nothing to do with India. S Jaishankar contended that Canada accuses India of wrongdoing without substantiating its claims.

Suspended

Guwahati: In a decision that threatens to end wrestler Bajrang Punia’s bid for Paris Olympics, the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has provisionally suspended him. NADA’s order came in the wake of Punia’s failure to submit his urine sample during selection trials in Sonepat on March 10.
