Shillong, Feb 26: Union Minister of State for Education Dr Sukanta Majumdar on Wednesday assured to resolve the ongoing crisis in the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU).
Speaking to media persons, Dr Majumdar said, “We are keeping a watch on this and we would like to minimise this and I hope we will be able to minimize the problems and whatever they are facing as students are the pivotal part of any institution and so our ministry is in touch with the administration and we will be able to sort out things very soon.”
Responding to a question on the demand for removal of the NEHU Vice Chancellor, the union minister of state however said that the university is autonomous and there is procedure for recruitment of vice chancellor.
“So, you cannot change a VC on demand. It is not possible but the government of India is always in touch with the officials (and the administration of the university),” he added.
