MPSC Reassessment Row: KSU demands MPSC to display marks secured by all candidates in prelims

Must read

Shillong, July 26: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has demanded the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) to display the marks secured by all candidates appearing for the Meghalaya Civil Service (Prelims) Examination following alleged irregularities in the recruitment.

At the same time, the union also decided to soon petition the chief minister Conrad K Sangma against the functioning of the MPSC.

Speaking to reporters after meeting the MPSC chairman on Friday, chairman of the KSU Employment Cell, Reuben Najiar, said, “We have demanded the MPSC chairman to display the marks of all the candidates, who are in the original list, as well as the 62 candidates (who were in additional list) so that it will be cleared to the public at large as to what are their marks and what is the cut off and based on our meeting, the chairman stated he will be having an official press conference and he will be clarifying all the details infront of the press.”

“We have also decided that we will also be petitioning the chief minister against all these irregularities as this is happening over and over again in the MPSC,” he added.

This came after a notification was issued by the MPSC chairman on July 23 informing about an additional list with roll nos. (following the commission’s decision to reassess OMR answer sheets of over 63 candidates) and that the written examination (mains) is tentatively fixed with effect from September 23, 2024.

The KSU leader said the union had sought clarification from the Commission as to how many questions were faulty which led to the addition of these 62 candidates or what were the reasons as to the OMR sheets being reviewed.

Also, if the original questions or answers are faulty, and after being reviewed there are changes which led to the selection of these candidates then it would also mean that the candidates who have been selected previously would have secured (marks on) a wrong answer(s) which should mean that they may not be able to qualify the said written examination but there is not list of any candidates being deducted from the main examination, he said.

Further, Najiar said it seems that all these things have been done with a malafide intention to include people (or candidates) belonging to high profile.

“(During the meeting), the chairman himself is not aware of the fact that he stated that there has been a mistake in the OMR sheets whereas there are some questions – three questions to be precise as per his statement that are wrong and after someone has petitioned over the wrong answers then they have to reevaluate and after reevaluating they found 62 candidates crossed the cut off marks,” he said adding “The union after hearing the statement is not surprised anymore because this is not the first time MPSC has made such a blunder. Time and again MPSC has been making such blunders.”

He asked till what extent the candidates or any students, who are aspiring to be a civil service servant will be able to tolerate this given the fact that the recruitment for MCS is happening once in 3-4 years.

Najiar informed that the union also took up with the MPSC chairman in regards to the statistical officer in the veterinary department.

“…the same after roster and new corrigendum which stated there is only one post belonging to Khasi-Jaintia category but when we saw the result we saw two people got selected – one from Khasi-Jaintia category and one from Garo category. Now, the question we asked the chairman is from where did the extra person, who was selected. He stated that there was another corrigendum but we could not find the same in the website and neither could he show us at that point of time,” he said.
