Shillong, Oct 31: 7 Wasa United’s hopes were dashed with a 2-0 defeat to Mawtari Myrdon in Group E of the Meghalaya State League (MSL) 2024 at Wahiajer on Thursday.
This was the only fixture scheduled for Thursday and Silbestar Kharbani (54’, 70’) struck twice in the second half to give Mawtari Myrdon victory.
Mawtari Myrdon won their opening match against Seinbhalang Shkentalang 3-1 three days ago, while 7 Wasa lost 9-0 to Shillong Lajong in the curtain raiser on Saturday.
Defeat means that 7 Wasa, champions of the inaugural MSL, will not be able to progress to the quarterfinals no matter how their last group fixture goes.
Each of the six group winners plus the best two second-placed teams overall will qualify for the knockout round of the tournament.
Lajong and Mawtari Myrdon have 6 points each, meaning that the fight for first and second in Group E is in the hands of these two sides alone.
Friday’s fixtures (Kick-off at 2pm):
Group A (Tura): Chipakkore vs Lumsohkhlur
Group B (Mawkyrwat): Mawten vs Sutnga
Group C (Tyrsad): Mawlum Tyrsad vs Seven United
Group D (Khliehriat): Rangdajied United vs Mulait United
Group E (Wahiajer): no match scheduled
Group F (Shillong): Mawlai vs Pynursla.
