Shillong, Dec 20: The Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) has decided to go ahead with its decision to launch the indefinite non-cooperation movement from December 21 following the state government’s failure to release at least 3-month pending salaries of the over 12,547 SSA teachers in the state.
The decision was taken after the ultimatum served to the state government ended on Monday.
In a statement, MSSASA president Aristotle C Rymbai said that since there has been no response either from the state government or the education department, the SSA teachers are compelled to launch the “indefinite” non-cooperation movement from December 21.
He said that during the non-cooperation movement, SSA teachers will not take part in government-sponsored activities which include Swachh Bharat, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahatosav programme, awareness programmes, trees plantation and others.
“The SSA teachers will not attend election duty, Covid-19 awareness duty and other activities which are not linked to education,” he said.
Rymbai said that the teachers are not happy with the silent and adamant attitude of the state government towards the demand for releasing the funds amounting to Rs 104 crore.
“(This is) the additional amount to be borne by the state government on capping norms of ‘Samagra Shiksha’ apart from 10 percent state share with regard to financial support for payment of SSA teachers salary which has been lying with the state government for the last three years,” he said.
“If this amount Rs 104 crore is released it will be sufficient to pay our pending salaries for at least 3 months,” he added.
