Shillong, Dec 10: Opposition leader of Meghalaya Mukul Sangma today called on Governor Satyapal Malik and sought his intervention on ILP and has demanded that the principal Meghalaya Resident Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), 2016 should be implemented and not the amended act.

“We are grateful that the Governor has given us a patience hearing”, Mukul said, speaking to media after meeting.

Mukul said that he was able to give the entire background on the need for implementation of ILP. “There has been an exhaustive discussion with different stakeholders on the need of ILP for several years”, he added.

During the meeting, the leader of opposition also urged the Governor to impress upon the Centre to implement ILP in Meghalaya to allay the apprehension gripping the minds of the indigenous population as a fallout of the CAA which was passed by the Centre.

On the issue of MRSSA and demand of opposition leader Mukul Sangma, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said that the amended act has taken into consideration all the earlier clauses and have added new clauses to suit the need of the time to ensure safety and security of the citizens of the State.
