Shillong, Oct 1: The Leader of Opposition and CLP leader, Dr Mukul Sangma on Friday denied the rumors of quitting the Congress party along with 13 Congress MLAs.
Speculations were rife on Friday that Dr. Sangma, after returning to Shillong from Delhi and displeased with some AICC leaders, was going to quit the party and join TrinamoolCongress (TMC).
Commenting on the rumours, Dr. Sangma said such speculations existed earlier too. He said, “The fact is that we have been able to isolate our team from the poaching which was resorted to, which is continuous until we face the 2023 election”.
“Until elections are faced, we won’t know what are those ultimate fallout of the unresolved issues during the preperation of the election,” he added.
He also remarked that it is premature to make assumptions and presumptions. “We have overcome a lot of challenges in the past, rather than saying I am (Mukul) an optimist… That’s why I am saying I don’t want to be a victim of pessimism”.
Stating that there are no friends in politics, Dr Sangma indicated towards the 2018 Assembly elections in which the Congress talked about forming alliance with other parties but ditched them in the last moment. “They too became a victim of betrayal and many lost” he said adding “these are the ultimately the dynamics of politics if the issues are not resolved upon time.”
Mukul to meet AICC leaders in DelhiÂ
However, the AICC did not hold any meeting with both the MPCC president Vincent Pala and the CLP leader Mukul though they were in New Delhi.
Dr. Sangma will be leaving for Delhi on Sunday after he was asked by the party leaders to come to the national capital to iron out the differences between him and Pala.
