Guwahati, April 5: Miss Tourism Myanmar 2018 titleholder, Silimee, has been confirmed as one of the casualties of the powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar in late March.
Silimee was trapped inside the Sky Villa condominium in Mandalay, which collapsed during the quake despite being marketed for its “earthquake-resistant foundation.” After days of intense rescue efforts, her body was discovered on April 2. The Miss Tourism Myanmar organization confirmed her passing in an official Facebook post.
“1st Miss Tourism Myanmar (Miss Tourism Myanmar 2018), who participated as a representative of Myanmar in Miss Tourism World 2018 – Beauty Silimee, was trapped in the collapse of Sky Villa in Mandalay city due to the earthquake that shook on March 28th, 2025. Only the lifeless body was recovered by the rescue teams today on April 2nd, 2025. Expressed deep condolences that it was confirmed,” the statement read.

Silimee was among two female bodies recovered during the morning search operations at the site. The discovery has added to the growing toll of the disaster, which has left many families grieving and communities devastated.
Rescue operations remain ongoing as the Myanmar Fire Force, international rescue teams, and local responders continue their efforts to search for survivors and recover bodies from the wreckage of collapsed buildings, including Sky Villa Condos. Authorities have yet to provide an official estimate of the total number of casualties, but reports indicate that the destruction has been widespread across Mandalay and surrounding regions.
Questions are being raised about the safety of high-rise constructions, particularly those promoted as “earthquake-resistant.” The collapse of Sky Villa has intensified concerns regarding building regulations and the structural integrity of residential towers in seismic-prone areas.
