Nagaland: Hornbill Music Festival 2023 to host over 40 artists & bands; Colombia, USA & Germany join as partner countries

Guwahati, Nov 23: Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio on Thursday informed that Colombia, the United States of America, and Germany will be the partner countries for the Hornbill Music Festival, which will start on December 1.

The chief minister made the announcement on the micro-blogging site X, formerly known a Twitter. “Delighted to announce that the United States of America is Country Partner of the #HornbillFestival2023. Come and be a part of the #FestivalOfFestivals – the #HornbillFestival. #Nagaland #LandOfFestivals,” he announced in a series of tweets.

In another tweet, Rio said: “I am happy to announce that Colombia is the Country Partner of the Hornbill Music Festival 2023. The #LandOfFestivals eagerly awaits our friends and guests from all over the world to the #FestivalOfFestivals – the #HornbillFestival2023.”

Similarly, he put out one more tweet to announce Germany’s partnership. “I am happy to announce that Germany is Country Partner of the Hornbill Festival 2023. Looking forward to welcoming everyone to the #LandOfFestivals during the #FestivalOfFestivals – the #HornbillFestival2023. Vielen Dank und willkommen in Nagaland,” he tweeted.

The Hornbill Music Festival is part of the renowned Hornbill Festival, which will be held from December 1 to 10, 2023. Government of Nagaland organizes Hornbill Festival every year in the first week of December to encourage inter-tribal interaction and to promote cultural heritage of the State. This year would be its 24th edition. The festival, also called Festival of Festivals, is held at Naga Heritage Village, Kisame, about 12 kilometres from State capital Kohima.

Over 40 bands/acts, featuring over 800 artists, will be performing at the main Hornbill stage, this year. The stellar line-up includes Padbhusan awardee, mohanveena virtuoso Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Los Rolling Ruanas from Colombia, Larry Yassi from the USA, Elm Tree Circle from Germany, and local artists/bands such as Alobo Naga and the Band, Trance Effect, Adil Manual Collective, and Street Stories, among others.

In addition, the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO), which had threated to boycott the event over its demand for a separate State for the 6 districts of eastern Nagaland, has decided to participate in the event.
