Nagaland: NPCC alleges poll expenditure much higher than state budget

Must read

Kohima, Sep 12: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has alleged that the total amount of money spent by all the candidates from 60 constituencies during the recently held assembly polls would be much more than the state’s annual budget.

It’s a big revelation by the Congress against the candidates who have spent money to win elections.

Addressing a press conference, NPCC president Supongmeren Jamir said that at such a rate, the people cannot expect much from the government.

“Presently there was an opposition-less government where all 60 legislators were sitting together under one umbrella and there was no one to stand up for the common people,” he alleged.

He said, “We are on a state-wide tour with the purpose of reaching out to the grassroots and feeling the pulse with the respective DCCs and ACCCs. The NPCC wants to feel the pulse of the people to know how they are coping and whether they are deprived of their rights.”

He said Congress, if voted to power, would “definitely” fight and stand up for the people.

Jamir called upon all responsible citizens, including civil society organisations and NGOs, to come together and constructively stand for the rights of the people.

He said the Congress Party, though in opposition for around 20 years, was there for the people.

Jamir said that the party would definitely field a candidate for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Congress has geared up for the upcoming polls and the party has started reaching grassroot people to know their problems.
