Kohima, April 16: The Nagaland Police has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate allegations of sexual harassment against senior IAS officer Reny Wilfred, currently serving as Joint Secretary at the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN).

According to a police statement, the case was initiated following a letter from the Chairperson of the Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW), Ngineig Konyak, addressed to Director General of Police Rupin Sharma on March 17. The letter mentioned a “verbal intimation” of the allegations conveyed by IDAN Chairman Abu Metha.
Metha, who also serves as Advisor to the Chief Minister and Secretary General of the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), submitted a written complaint accompanied by a letter from employees alleging sexual harassment.

The NSCW recorded statements from the alleged victims last month and forwarded them, along with Metha’s letter and the attached complaint, to the police.

A five-member SIT, led by a senior IPS officer, has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation. Following a preliminary inquiry, police stated that a cognizable offence of sexual harassment had been established, warranting a full criminal probe. An FIR was formally registered on April 2.

Wilfred had previously faced allegations of sexual assault involving two minor girls during his tenure as District Collector of Noklak district.
