Kohima, June 9: Nagaland’s 16-year-old Tenloi Phom won silver medal in Taekwondo’s 48kg category for the state team at 66th National School Games. The National School Games was held in Delhi on Thursday.
In Taekwondo’s first match, Tenloi defeated his opponent from Karnataka, and in the second match he defeated Chhattisgarh.
While in the semifinals, he defeated the opponent from Assam. He had to settle with silver medal after losing against Haryana in the final match.
In this championship, a total of eight players are participating. The championship is led by coach Visabiu Peseyie and team Manager Deepak Prasad.
The Nagaland Taekwondo team is representing the state under the department of Youth Resources and Sports.
Tenloi Phom , is a student at TM Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima and is currently admitted at the Sports Academy, IG stadium, Kohima.
Meanwhile other participants, Thongti for under 45 kg won first match against Jharkhand but lost to Gujarat in the second match. Nnumhei won the first match against Andhra pradesh but lost to Gujarat in next in under 63 kg.
