National Law University of Meghalaya Bill, 2022 to be tabled in Assembly’s Autumn Session

Shillong, Aug 24: The state government has decided to table the National Law University of Meghalaya Bill, 2022 in the upcoming autumn session of the State Assembly which will commence from September 9.

Informing this after a cabinet meeting, Law Minister James K Sangma said this was after the government had recently passed the National Law University of Meghalaya Ordinance, 2022. “This ordinance will have to be converted into a draft Bill and will now be placed in the upcoming Assembly session,” he said.

The state government has decided to establish a National Law University at Rs 6.5 crore in the state.

Earlier, while announcing this decision, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had informed that the University will be functioning from a temporary campus at the initial stage till a permanent campus is set up. About 60 students will be taken every year. The CM had stated that the financial impact on an annual basis will be approximately Rs 6.5 crore depending on the assets and different infrastructure created and that the capital expenditure will differ from year to year.
