National seminar on ‘Machine Learning and its Applications’ begins at ICFAI University in Tura

TURA, Nov 10: Two-day National Seminar on “Machine Learning and its Applications”, being conducted by the Department of IT, The ICFAI University Meghalaya, Tura Campus, began on Wednesday.

Dr. Blizzard R. Marak, Joint Director, Information Technology Enabled Services, MBOSE, graced the inaugural function as the chief guest. Marak spoke about the concept of artificial intelligence and Machine learning. He also said that these skills are significant in all the sectors. He also spoke about the benefits of these skills in getting themselves employed. Further, he invited the students for internship in MBOSE. Moreover, he encouraged the scholars to do their research work not only for their degree but to contribute their work to the society.

The head of the department of IT, Sumit Dey, in his welcome address, said Machine learning is the trend and has a lot of scope for the students and scholars pursuing courses in Information technology.

Dr. Dr. Rubul Kumar Bania, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Computer Application, NEHU, Tura Campus, highlighted the foundation of Machine Learning in terms of different Paradigms and Techniques. Different application areas related to health care, Social Networking, Waste Management were discussed.

Dikme Chisil B. Marak, Faculty, Dept. of Computer Application, NEHU, Tura Campus, spoke about the supervised algorithm like KNN Algorithm, Naive Bayes etc. to understand machine learning more deeply.

Dr. Shonahar Ali, Associate Professor, delivered a lecture on Multiclass Classification by ANN Using RStudio. Artificial neural networks are a subset of Artificial Intelligence. Classification is done by Artificial neural networks using the package neuralnet. Confusion matrix was constructed to see the accuracy and also compared the accuracy with the Support Vector Machine method.

Total of 75 students are participating in the Seminar, alongwith 9 students from NEHU, Tura campus, 1 from IT department of ICFAI University Dehradun, 2 Academicians from
Don Bosco College, Tura, and 2 scholars from Department of Computer Applications, NEHU, Tura.
