Tura, May 17: National Skill Training Institute (W) (NSTI), Tura organised a five days workshop on self defense for girls on Sports, Physical Education, Fitness & Leisure Skills Council (SPEFL-SC), to empower women with essential self-protection skills and enhance their ability to navigate personal safety challenges. 144 trainees took part in the workshop. NSTI also distributed Nirbhaya kit along with the personal safety training. The defense kit contained a key chain alarm, a chemical based spray, safety whistle and a stringer
The workshop aimed to make women mindful of their security and instil confidence in them to deal with any unforeseen situations. The training modules also taught them to be mentally strong in potential dangerous or life-threatening situations.
Ritu Rani, Asst. Director Training, Principal, NSTI (W), Tura said that the workshop will be conducted every year with the induction of new batches each year. She also stressed on an increase in the time frame of the training and has sent the proposal for a minimum of 15 days, so that students get better understanding of the kit and get enough time to practice the proper self-defense techniques.
She further added that such initiatives should be taken up in every school so that the children practice these from a tender age and become mentally strong enough that the use of a self defense kit does not arise. If such habit is instilled at a young age, she becomes more aware of her surroundings and in turn feels safe in future.
The training is conducted all over the country and funded by the government.
