Aizawl, Apr 9: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has proposed setting up a zonal office in Mizoram to combat the persistent smuggling of drugs from Myanmar.
NCB Director General Anurag Garg met Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma and suggested establishing a full-fledged NCB zonal office in the state. He also emphasized the need for additional staff familiar with the local language and the region’s ground realities.

Lalduhoma requested the NCB DG to submit a formal proposal outlining the office’s specific requirements. He also informed Garg that he had urged the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to approve the formation of a Mizo Territorial Army to enhance border security along Mizoram’s unfenced borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh.

Myanmar’s Chin state serves as a hub for smuggling various drugs, exotic wildlife, and contraband into Mizoram through six districts—Champhai, Siaha, Lawngtlai, Hnahthial, Saitual, and Serchhip.
Mizoram shares an unfenced border of 510 km with Myanmar and 318 km with Bangladesh, making it a critical zone for cross-border smuggling.
