Tura, July 9: The NCC’s Pre-Subroto Cup Under-17 Girls for the North-Eastern Region organised by 41 Meghalaya Battalion NCC, Tura, under the aegis of NCC Group, Shillong, concluded at the P. A. Sangma Stadium in Dakopgre, Tura on Tuesday.
Aimed at identifying the team that will represent the NCC North-East Region at the prestigious Subroto Cup tournament to be held in New Delhi, a total of eight NCC teams from various states participated in this tournament.
In the finale, the NCC Silchar team from Mizoram were up against the NCC Guwahati team from Assam, where the Silchar girls defeated their opponent with a dominating 5-0 victory. The Silchar team showcased an exceptional game, maintaining good ball possession, whereas the Guwahati team were unable to score despite best efforts.
The U-17 Girls’ team of NCC Silchar group lifted the winning trophy and the NCC Guwahati team received the runners up prize; whereas the 3rd and 4th position were awarded to the Shillong NCC group and ADG 11, respectively.
Oyit Pabin of Dibrugarh team received the prize for Best Goalkeeper; Nazareen Nongdhar of Shillong team received the prize for Highest Scorer and the Best Player award went to B Lalhmingthangi of the Silchar team.
Present at the occasion were Major General Gagan Deep, ADG, NCC, North-East Region; Jagdish Chelani, DC of West Garo Hills, along with Group Commander Brigadier Vijayanth Mahadik, Commanding Officer Lt Col KTM Singha of 41 Meghalaya Battalion NCC and other high ranking officers.
The event also saw a marching band display by the St. John Higher Secondary School and a cultural Wangala dance performance by the NCC cadets.
Speaking to Hub News, Major General Gagan Deep said, “All these girls who are under 17 have shown excellent potential and it is an endeavour to provide them opportunity and exposure at every step of their NCC journey.”
