Shillong, May 30: The 9th Conclave of the North East Cricket Development Committee (NECDC) and the 3rd Achievers Awards Night will take place at the State Convention Centre in Shillong on June 1, 2024.

The Meghalaya Cricket Association will host the event. This annual conclave rotates among the six member states: Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim. Meghalaya previously hosted the 3rd Conclave in 2018.

The NECDC, formed in 2016, has been pivotal in the six states’ collective effort to secure full permanent membership of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This milestone was achieved in 2018, granting the states the right to participate in the Ranji Trophy and other BCCI tournaments, and establishing the North East Zone as the sixth zone of the BCCI.

The NECDC focuses on developing cricket in the region through cooperation among the states, promoting grassroots cricket, and improving communication with the BCCI. Initiatives such as the NECDC Inter State “Friendship Cup” and recognizing achievers in various BCCI tournaments for men, women, boys, and girls aim to inspire and acknowledge cricket talent in the region. The committee also conducts regular exchange programs, clinics for coaches, umpires, physiotherapists, and trainers to enhance cricket-related activities.

The conclave and awards night will see the participation of officials from all six state associations, founder members, and award recipients. The event highlights NECDC’s commitment to the collaborative development and promotion of cricket in the North East.

Naba Bhattacharjee, Co-Convenor of NECDC, emphasized the importance of teamwork and adherence to BCCI rules and guidelines as the foundation of NECDC’s efforts.
