Shillong, April 7: The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) recently hosted an important Indo-German collaboration focused on skill development, global job readiness, and promoting agricultural exports from Meghalaya and the Northeast region.

The meeting was led by Sudhanshu Jangir, CEO of Dr. Skill, a Gujarat-based organization working in the areas of skill development and export facilitation. The event brought together representatives from Indian and German institutions, including well-known German companies such as Find-Jobs, MoschMosch, and The Bliss Group.

The discussions centered around creating training programs that meet global industry standards and help students from Northeast India prepare for employment opportunities in Europe and beyond. One of the key decisions made was to move forward with signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NEHU, Dr. Skill, and the Indo-European Institute of Skill Development and Sustainability (IISDS). This collaboration aims to launch virtual Executive MBA (EMBA) programs that focus on sustainability, future-ready skills, and global employability. These programs will be supported by the German companies involved, offering students international exposure, practical experience, and better access to global job markets.

The meeting also touched on the export potential of agricultural products from Meghalaya. Delegates from Germany showed strong interest in sourcing cashew nuts directly from farmers in the region. This initiative will be coordinated through the Indian Institute of Sustainability, a special purpose vehicle under NEHU, and is expected to open new income opportunities for local farmers and support rural development.

Sudhanshu Jangir described the collaboration as a way to build skill-based bridges between India and Europe. He said the goal is to bring global opportunities closer to the youth of rural India, especially in the Northeast.

Prof. P. S. Shukla, Vice Chancellor of NEHU, called the meeting a historic moment. He said that the collaboration would expand NEHU’s academic reach beyond the region and into Europe, and help improve the lives of both students and farmers through skill development and export opportunities.

The meeting ended on an optimistic note, with all participants expressing strong interest in continuing long-term cooperation in the areas of education, skills, agriculture, and entrepreneurship.
