Shillong, Oct 22 : North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) on Tuesday marked a significant milestone by signing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with seven distinguished national and international organizations.
The MoU signing ceremony, held at NEHU’s Shillong campus, was graced by IIM Shillong Director, Prof. D.P. Goyal, as the Chief Guest.
The agreements are expected to enhance cooperation in areas such as education, research, agriculture, technology, cultural exchange, and sustainability.
Speaking on the occasion, NEHU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnerships, calling the event “not merely a formal signing but a significant step toward fostering collaboration and excellence across diverse fields.” He emphasized that these collaborations align with NEHU’s core mission to “disseminate and advance knowledge and contribute to the intellectual, academic, and cultural advancement of the North-Eastern region.”
One of the key collaborations is with the Indo-Korea Business Cultural Centre (IKBCC), which will introduce Korean language courses at NEHU, offering students linguistic and cultural opportunities. Prof. Shukla explained that this partnership will “strengthen ties between India and Korea and offer our students exposure to East Asian culture through cultural exchanges and employment opportunities.”
Another MoU was signed with ICAR – Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Guwahati. This collaboration focuses on joint research and capacity building, with a shared goal of developing innovative solutions in agriculture and rural development. Prof. Shukla highlighted that “together, we aim to benefit the region and the country by fostering entrepreneurship and sharing technology.”
The CSRBOX Foundation (SMEC Trust) partnership will provide NEHU students with access to industry-relevant skills, free IBM-certified programs, and employment opportunities. Prof. Shukla stressed that this initiative “will ensure that our students are equipped for the evolving job market.”
NEHU is also expanding its horizon into the film and entertainment industry through an MoU with Black Screen Studio Inc., Mumbai. This partnership will create career avenues in filmmaking, storytelling, and related fields, leveraging NEHU’s infrastructure and the studio’s creative expertise. “This partnership will allow our students to explore exciting opportunities in the film industry,” said Prof. Shukla.
In collaboration with the State Cancer Institute, Gauhati Medical College, NEHU will engage in joint cancer research and provide training opportunities for students and faculty. Prof. Shukla remarked, “Together, we will contribute toward understanding and addressing critical health challenges.”
NEHU is also taking a step toward sustainability with its partnership with JETS 24×7, Shillong, which will introduce an E-Scooter and E-Rickshaw service on campus. “This eco-friendly initiative will reduce our carbon footprint and serve as a model for clean, efficient transportation,” noted Prof. Shukla.
The university’s collaboration with TeamLease EdTech, Mumbai, aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry needs through upskilling and digital education. “With TeamLease EdTech’s platform, we will empower our students to excel in competitive industries,” Prof. Shukla stated.
In his concluding remarks, Prof. Shukla emphasized the importance of these partnerships in enriching NEHU’s academic community and benefiting broader society. “These partnerships reflect our shared commitment to innovation, sustainability, academic excellence, and societal impact,” he said.
