NEHU Students’ Union and KSU lock VC office in protest against his claim of rejoining

Must read

Shillong, March 6: The North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) and the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Thursday locked the office of Vice Chancellor Prof. P. S. Shukla as a mark of protest against his rejoining the university.

This came after Prof. Shukla recently claimed that he had resumed his duties as NEHU Vice Chancellor on March 3.

The protesting student bodies also locked the university gates to prevent Prof. Shukla from entering the campus.

They reiterated their demand for his immediate removal, alleging that he is responsible for the ongoing crisis in the university.

Expressing concern, NEHUTA president Prof. Lakhon Kma stated that in NEHU’s fifty-plus years of history, there is no precedent for such a claim of resuming duty virtually without officially rejoining from earned leave, which Prof. Shukla has been on for the past three and a half months.

“The NEHUTA finds such a claim misplaced, as it violates university procedures and rules, especially in the case of a completely errant VC like Prof. P. S. Shukla, who has brought NEHU to its lowest point through his wrongdoings—leading to an official inquiry,” Prof. Kma said.
